2005 Bantam Spartans

The 2005 Spartans bantam team accomplished something that no other Spartans bantam team has ever accomplished. They will be remembered as one of the greatest Spartans bantam team.

This team went 10-0 a perfect regular season.

To complement this team, the management and coaching staff. They worked very hard to recruit, trained and conditioned these young athletes not only to play the game but to believe in themselves and as a team.

Team Manager
Mr. Robert Phillips

Head Coach
Mr. Bruno Deschenes

Kim Feltus
Assistant & Special Teams Coach

Jimmy Ionta
Assistant & OL Coach

Paul Redman
Defensive Backs Coach

Steve Morisseau
Offensive Coordinator

Eric
Defensive Coordinator

Remi Abrado
Defensive Line Coach

Here are a few of action shots of the 2005 Spartans.

# 76 Kamal " The Tank "
Kamal was one of the captains, he played full back, o-line, d-line and was also the punter. His strength allowed him to plow threw opponents when playing full back. Kamal was a brutal force.

# 38 Shane
Shane was also a captain, he played d-line and TE. His style of playing was unique, Shane was able to penetrate the opponent's o-line and sack the quarterback many times. When it came to tackling, no opponent was too big for Shane.

# 11 Zachary " Tiger "
Zachary was one of the captains as well, his size not the biggest but his heart made up for it 10 fold. His position was LB, this young athlete chased opponents down like a tiger preys threw the jungle. Not to mention some pretty nice quarterback sacks. Born leader...

# 79 Jeffrey
Jeffrey played running back, his size and strength allowed him to make some nice running plays. Jeffrey is a born athlete with a good attitude and  has great potential, all Jeffrey needs is to stay focused.

# 43 Alex
Alex played on the o-line and was the snapper. One of the most vulnerable positions, Alex made it look easy. His strength allowed him to keep opponents out and most of the times Alex would use this strength to move opponents and give his teammates a clear path.

# 56 Angelo " The Hammer "
Having never played football 2005 was Angelo's rookie year. At 5'9" 225lbs his size was a perfect fit for football. Angelo played on the o-line, d-line and also played fullback a couple of games. Angelo was awarded the Rookie Of The Year trophy.

# 10 Eric
Eric played quarterback and wide receiver. When playing WR Eric made some amazing catches that complement highlight reels. In his quarterback position Eric's passes were made with precision. If Eric didn't see any receiver open he would run the ball not fearing out come.

# 7 Jamie
Jamie played wide receiver. His hands are like magnets when it comes to a football. Jamie made plenty of catches that thrilled not only fans but his teammates as well. His ability to catch is complemented by his speed and agility to elude opponents.

# 9
Kayin played quarterback and safety, as a quarterback his passing was very accurate. When Kayin played safety, you would almost expect to see a fumble.

# 21
Jamael played tight end, in this picture surrounded by 4 panthers Jamael demonstrates his ability to catch a football.

#14

Christophe played running back, he had a good burst of speed and could tackle with ease.

# 2
Evans played wide receiver, small in size but still was able to make some amazing catches.

# 73
Sasha played linebacker, there was no opponent to big for Sasha. Every time the play was heading Sasha's way, the opponent didn't have a chance to get the number that hit him.

# 61
Alex played o-line and d-line, just by looking at Alex you would think twice about heading his way. At 6 foot something and about 250 lbs, opponents felt like they were running into a STONE WALL...

# 36
Samuel played wide receiver and had some pretty nice plays that complemented highlight reels.

# 57
Jeremy played o-line.

# 32
Chirag played linebacker.

# 60
Walter played on the d-line.

# 74
Majid played defensive back.

# 47
Yannick played o-line and d-line, not big in size but big on tackles.

# 6
Justin a very solid defensive back.

# 71
Shawn was another solid defensive back.

# 29
Philippe played tight end and had some amazing catches.

# 20
Marc Arthur this young athlete was a bullet.

# 22
Kyle played defensive back.

# 34
Micheal played on the d-line very solid player and if he got threw, quarterback watch out...

# 63
Christos played o-line.

# 35
Hugo played on the d-line.

# 46

# 41

# 45

# 42
Ahmed played o-line, he had style of played which opponent's size and strength just didn't matter.

Angelo puts a stop to this Hornets flight.

Angelo moving in on another Hornet.

Angelo getting threw the Hornet's d-line and then trying to move a Spartan to rush a few more yards.

Another great rush by Charlie.

The Spartans started this game playing like a team, that didn't last too long. Near the end of the first half the Spartans fell apart.

The Hornets took advantage of this and never looked back...

Hornets scoring a touch down.

Hornets take flight...

Even on the ground Hornets are dangerous...

Good game by the Hornets.

As for the Spartans, the defense must play harder.

WEEK -2

For the Spartans Vs Lasalle game no pictures are available only video.

WEEK - 3

Spartans Tame The Cougars

Spartans went into this game 0-2, determined to capture their first win of the season, the Spartans played as a UNIT.

The o-line played amazing.

The Cougars were unable to stop the HUNGRY Spartans.

This game was no walk in the park, both teams played hard. The Cougars controlled the play for the first two quarters and took a 12 - 7 lead.

After half time the Spartans came out like a hurricane.

The d-line was off their game a bit, but managed to up their level of intensity in the third shutting down the Cougars.

The referees had to weather the storm, but they did a great job.

WEEK - 4

Chateauguay Raid Saint Laurent
45 - 0

Chateauguay's defense played amazing, shutting down and disorienting the Spartans o-line. Despite what the scoreboard says, The Spartans defense played well allowing only 17 points out of the 45.

Angelo taking a couple of Raiders out.

Another Raider goes down.

# 30 Angelo rushing a few yards.

# 30 Angelo once again rushing in a few yards, Angelo put up a decent battle against the 8 Raider's players.

# 22 Kadel had an amazing game with 3 interceptions, not to mention some nice tackles.

The Raiders offense played well.

# 39 This young athlete is a power house, he could run the ball...

After seeing Chateauguay play I believe that this team will do really well,  good game guys and good luck for the rest of the season.

WEEK -5

Bantam Spartans Steal One From
St. Bruno
26 - 24

Where to begin and where to end, both teams had their good moments and their share of bad ones. A game that could have turned out to be a blow out for either team turned into a close nail biting finish.

Both teams d-lines played amazing and kept the game close down to the final minute and half of the game.

Spartans running back # 79 Charlie had his game of the season rushing for many yards with a vengeance.

Charlie with a nice catch.

Charlie on the fly...

Charlie making his way to the end zone.

Spartans # 4 Dylan played fearless running in an amazing touchdown after making an awesome catch. Dylan made an outstanding interception as well.

Spartans # 14 Juliene on the special teams ran the ball without error.

Spartans # 59 Alex played a strong game as usual which enabled his teammates to capitalize.

Good game Alex keep up the good work...

# 45 Peter played a strong game on the d-line, administered some punishing hits.

Peter is a rookie with raw power as the season progresses I believe Peter's performance will be something to be reckon with.

All the Spartans played well and allowed these individual efforts to evolve, with that being said, the best was saved for last...

With a 1:46 to go in the game St. Bruno scores a touchdown and need a two point conversion to tie the game.

With the score 26-24 a desperate attempt to tie the game was spoiled by # 30 Angelo.

In disbelief # 11 the quarterback looks on as the celebration was about to begin.

Way to go Spartans!!!!

Good game St. Bruno, good luck for the rest of the season...

WEEK - 6

ONCE AGAIN THE HORNETS STING THE SPARTANS
26 - 0

The score is deceiving if you didn't actually see the game, by far this was no blow out. Both teams defense played amazing and kept the game close, going into the third quarter the Hornets had an 8 - 0 lead.

In this game passing plays just didn't work, running plays was what it was all about. The battle up middle was played out and the Hornets came out up on top...

Things could have been worst, but two veterans hooked up and played well. No matter where you put Alex and Angelo they play hard and play with the most important ingredient, with heart....

Keep up the good work guys...

Kaled returning a punt aprox. 25 yards, could have rushed for more if the blocking was better...

Kaled eluding two  Hornets...

Three  Hornets now  in pursuit as a fourth one is moving in....

The Spartans running back # 79 Charlie played a strong game as usual rushing many yards and crushing opponents in his way.

Excellent job Charlie, keep up the good work...

# 4 Dylan played a strong game for the Spartans. Dylan is another veteran that no matter what position he plays, he plays hard, with heart and intelligence.

The Hornets quarterback did a fine job scrambling to elude a couple of Spartan players to release the pass. What he didn't realize is that, down the field Dylan was watching like a hawk. When the pass was thrown out of nowhere Dylan is airborne and makes an amazing interception.

The video highlight will bring justice to this play...

Nice play Dylan...

Nice tackle Theo...

The Hornets # 22 played a strong game...

Another nice play by # 22...

The Hornets quarterback eludes three Spartans and runs in for the touchdown.

Congratulations to the Hornets for playing a strong defensive game and capitalizing on the very few errors the Spartans made..

The Hornet's team played a very discipline game and proved why they are first overall.

Good game guys, good luck in the playoffs...

WEEK - 7

LaSalle Wins Their Second Meeting With The Spartans In The First Quarter 22 - 0

Final Score 29 - 0

The Spartans coaches tried a new formation that allowed the Warriors to capitalize and take a lead that would be impossible to battle back.

After going back to their normal formation,  the Spartans only allowed one touchdown against them. Pretty impressive especially against a team like LaSalle.

Now if the offense could get it together this Spartans team would be a strong contender within this division...

A special thanks to Fotini Papoulis for taking all these amazing pictures as I was too busy with the video...

Good rushing by the Warriors.

The Warriors play a very discipline style, every opportunity you give them to score, they will..

WEEK - 10

Je Reviens

St Bruno team remembered the last meeting these two teams had and came back with a performance that was unmatchable.

As for me these two words "Je Reviens" bring back fond memories of my father and uncles venture in Saint Bruno about 15-20 years ago when they opened a restaurant called Je Reviens.

Back to business...

St Bruno Dismantle The Spartans

42 - 0

Right from the kick off the Barons moved the ball with authority, the Spartans d-line looked shaky but managed to recover the ball at their 5 yard line.
In this first clip you see how well the Barons move the ball, you will see some nice tackles by # 30 Angelo, # 4 Dylan, # 21 Billy, # 14 Julienne and the fumble recovery by # 30 Angelo.

Clip 1

The Spartans were given a chance to strike first not once but twice, as you will see in this next clip. The Spartans after exhausting their 4 downs their punter # 79 Charlie recovers a punt and allows his team another chance to strike first. The quarterback # 10 Christian playing injured took himself out of the game after his second attempt was intercepted. The Barons d-line coverage was amazing and was rewarded with a nice interception.

Clip 2

The Barons quarterback begins the dismantling of the Spartans by scoring the first two touchdowns. A nice interception by the Barons contributes to quarterback's assault. Not only can this quarterback pass, he can run and his kicking abilities are amazing as well...

Clip 3

Dylan gets the call to play quarterback, although he tried his best the Barons d-line was too HOT...
The d-line was all over the field, not to mention all over the Spartans. In this clip you get a chance to see the Barons red hot d-line and o-line....

Clip 4

The Barons quarterback played amazing scoring his third touchdown and with all due respect to the Barons team which played awesome, orchestrated an amazing victory for his team. Good game # 11.

Clip 5

Congratulations to the Saint Bruno Barons on their amazing performance and good luck in the playoffs...

To the fans and organization

A big Merci for being great hosts....

WEEK - 11
FIRST ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS

BANTAM SPARTANS MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ROUND
AFTER BEATING THE NORTHSHORE CHEETAHS
20 - 12

Video Highlights Part 1

Video Highlights Part 2

The NorthShore Cheetahs played amazing, even though they were the smaller of the two teams. Pound for pound the Cheetahs held their ground.

What they didn't expect turn around and bit them, # 14 Julienne for the Spartans was used in the line up for his speed. This was an intelligent move by the Spartans head coach as he anticipated that speed would be a winning factor in this game.

# 21 from the Cheetahs gets away from the first Spartan.

The second Spartan # 73 Theo takes the Cheetah's player down.

# 30 Angelo doing what he does best.

I didn't think that I would see a ROADRUNNER in real life, now I know how the Coyote feels. This young athlete can probably beet the Roadrunner, you blink, he's in your end zone....

Theo and Angelo putting an end to this Cheetahs run.

# 42 Burham # 60 Chris taking down # 25 from the Cheetahs.

What a pleasure to watch this young athlete run with ball, thrilling.

Kaled turned in an amazing performance once again.

Julienne with a nice run.

# 14 Julienne with another nice run...

After being spun around by a Cheetahs player, Julienne's nice run ended with a fumble and a recovery by the Cheetahs.

A couple of Spartans players blinked and guess who's running towards the end zone, that's right # 25. Billy and Angelo trying desperately to catch him but when this young athlete turns it on, all you see is dust...

Angelo trying to contain # 25 from The Cheetahs.

Dylan with a nice catch.

Dylan moving in on his opponent.

Billy with perfect coverage on the Cheetahs # 25.

Chris sacking the quarterback.

Dylan finds an opening and rushes towards the end zone.

Dylan crossing the goal line.

Theo with another nice tackle.

Cheetahs trying to get threw but a wall of Spartans doesn't allow it...

Two Spartans put an end to his rush.

Angelo once again dances with # 25 of the Cheetahs.

Charlie breaking threw and rushing towards the end zone.

Kaled making sure that Charlie gets over the goal line.

After Charlie's touchdown the Spartans try for two points to put this game out of the Cheetahs reach.

The Spartans attempt was successful and they took a 20 - 6 lead.

The Cheetah's # 25 returns the ball about 80 yards and narrows the Spartans lead 20 - 12.

WEEK - 12
SECOND ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS

RAIDERS ELIMINATE THE SPARTANS

21 - 6

The Raiders few fans that occupied the almost empty stands were cheering and chanting "we believe,  we believe". I guess that was enough to ignite the Raider's hearts. The Raiders took advantage of some very strange line up changes that the Spartan's coaches had made and never looked back.

Any hopes of a comeback were shattered when the Spartans lost some key players due to injuries.

The Spartans # 4 Dylan got injured early in the game, that was the first blow of the game for the Spartans.

The second blow of the game came when  #10 Christian, the Spartans quarterback got injured.

The third blow was when # 7 Jamie who has played quarterback and wide receiver this year took over for Christian and ended up with an injury of his own.

The Raiders d-line played amazing and allowed their offence to mount a lead that would be impossible for the battered Spartans to come back.
